Extended Simulation Guide
This guide provides instructions for using the MD-11 Extended Simulation (MD-11 XS) App.
Getting Started
Launching the Application
The MD-11 XS app is installed with the Common package and a shortcut should be created on your desktop. The app will periodically attempt to connect to your simulator automatically.
Connection Status
Check the connection indicator at the bottom-right corner of the window:
- Red indicator: Not connected to any simulator
- Yellow indicator (pulsing): Connected to a simulator, but not flying the MD-11
- Green indicator (pulsing): Connected to the MD-11 in your simulator
The status text displays which simulator you're connected to (e.g., "Connected to the MD-11 in FS24").
Tips & Best Practices
- Start Simple: Begin with low-severity failures to understand their effects, taking care to reference the Quick Reference Handbook for guidance.
- Ground Operations: Most maintenance activities require the aircraft to be on the ground
- Component Tracking: Monitor component wear to practice preventive maintenance
- Scenarios: Use conditional failures to create realistic training scenarios (e.g., engine failure at V1)
- Coordination: Use mobile access for multi-crew operations where one pilot manages failures
