1. CONTACT MAINTENANCE

  • Contact maintenance for aircraft repairs.

NOTE

An attempt to clear the alert may be attempted on the ground by placing the FLAP/SLAT handle to UP/RET then back to the planned takeoff position. Should this clear the alert, no further crew action is required.

AILERON DEFLECT OVRD SWITCH OPERATIVE

IF AILERON DEFLECT OVRD SWITCH IS INOPERATIVE, SKIP TO STEP 8


1. AILERON DEFLECT OVRD SWITCH - OVRD ON

  • Set Aileron deflect ovrd switch to the OVRD ON position.

    Push the AILERON DEFLECT OVRD switch and observe OVRD ON light illuminates.

2. AIRSPEED - MAX 255 KIAS / .51 MACH

  • Monitor airspeed ensuring it does not pass the max of 255 KIAS or .51 MACH.

3. FLAP / SLAT HANDLE - 10 / EXT

  • Set the FLAP / SLAT HANDLE to the 10 / EXT position.

4. FLAP / SLAT HANDLE - 0 / EXT

  • Set the FLAP / SLAT HANDLE to the 0 / EXT position.

5. AILERON DEFLECT OVRD SWITCH - OFF

  • Set Aileron deflect ovrd switch to the OFF position.

    Push the AILERON DEFLECT OVRD switch and observe OVRD ON light extinguishes.

NOTE

The use of the AILERON DEFLECT OVRD switch is limited to one cycle.

AIL DEFLECT DISAG ALERT EXTINGUISHED

IF AIL DEFLECT DISAG ALERT IS STILL DISPLAYED, SKIP TO STEP 7


When desired,

6. FLAP / SLAT HANDLE - UP / RET

  • Set the FLAP / SLAT Handle to the UP / RET position.

    Make log entry.

  • Set the FLAP / SLAT Handle to the UP / RET position.

NOTES

  • Do not exceed 280 KIA / .82 Mach
  • Do not use FMS fuel computations for flight planning.
  • Fuel consumption may be increased up to 20%.
  • Diversion to a suitable airport may be required.
  • Plan a normal FLAP/SLAT landing.
  • After landing, Subject Captain's Discretion (SCD), leave flaps in landing position to assist in determining which aileron remains deflected.
  • Do not use autoland.
  • Disconnect the autopilot by 200 feet AGL.
  • Make log entry.

FLAP DISAG

Place FLAP / SLAT handle to match flap position. Allow several seconds for system response. If alert remains displayed select the last symmetrical configuration.

PROBLEM WAS ASYMMETRIC FLAPS

IF PROBLEM WAS NOT ASYMMETRIC FLAPS, SKIP TO ALERT APPEARED DURING ATTEMPTED FLAP RETRACTION


Land at nearest suitable airport using existing flap/slat setting

If final flap setting is zero, Perform Abnormal Non-alert procedure - NO FLAP/SLAT EXTENDED LANDING.

If final flap setting is less than 35°,

1. GPWS SWITCH - FLAP OVRD

  • Set the GPWS switch to the FLAP OVRD position.

2. AUTOBRAKES - OFF

  • Set the autobrakes to the OFF position.

Wait until at 50 feet RA

3. AUTOTHROTTLES - OFF

  • Set the autothrottles to the OFF position.

Land at nearest suitable airport

If flaps now less then 50°, further extension may be attempted if desired.

NOTE

If after selecting a greater flap setting, flaps do not move as selected, place FLAP/SLAT handle to match actual flap position.

If final flap setting is less than 35°,

4. GPWS SWITCH - FLAP OVRD

  • Set the GPWS switch to the FLAP OVRD position.

5. AUTOBRAKES - OFF

  • Set the autobrakes to the OFF position.

Wait until at 50 feet RA

6. AUTOTHROTTLES - OFF

  • Set the autothrottles to the OFF position.

7. AIRSPEED - REDUCE

  • Reduce airspeed to minimum maneuver speed displayed on PFD.

NOTE

During the next step, FLAP/SLAT handle forces will be higher than normal.

Place FLAP/SLAT handle to 50/EXT, then return handle to desired position. Allow several seconds for system response. (This action may allow flaps to reset to normal operation.)

FLAPS EXTEND AS DESIRED

IF ALERT DID NOT APPEAR DURING FLAP RETRACTION, SKIP TO RETURN FLAP / SLAT HANDLE TO MATCH ACTUAL POSITION


No further crew action is required.


Return FLAP/SLAT handle to match actual flap position.


FLAP POSITION 0 DEGREES

IF FLAP POSITION IS NOT 0 DEGREES, SKIP TO LAND WITH EXISTING FLAP / SLAT SETTING.

FLIGHT CONTROLS JAMMED OR RESTRICTED

NOTES

  • If jam occurs during manually controlled flight, attempt to engage autopilot.
  • If freezing water is the cause, control may be regained by descending into warmer air.

1. SEAT BELT SWITCH - ON

  • Set the SEAT BELT switch to the ON position.

IF AILERON CONTROLS ARE NOT JAMMED OR RESTRAINED, SKIP TO ELEVATOR CONTROLS JAMMED OR RESTRICTED


If jam was detected during cruise, and if aircraft control is adequate, continue to normal descent point.

NOTE

Some lateral control may be available through the control wheel position sensors of Roll Control Wheel Steering.

If controls remain jammed or restricted:

2. AUTOPILOT / AUTOTHROTTLES - DISCONNECT

  • DISCONNECT Both the autopilot and autothrottles.

3. MAXIMUM AIRSPEED - 290 KIAS / .80 MACH

  • Monitor max airspeed ensuring no to pass 290 KIAS / .80 MACH.

4. CONTROL WHEELS (ROLL AXIS) - SEPARATE / DISCONNECT

  • SEPARATE / DISCONNECT the control wheels on the roll axis.

Use force as required to separate/disconnect the two halves of the control system (approximately 90 pounds, 41kg).

NOTES

  • Autothrottles will be available.
  • Autopilot may be available, but should be disconnected during descent and approach and landing.
  • Select a runway with minimum crosswind.
  • If roll authority is reduced, fly a wider pattern than normal to allow a stabilized approach.

ELEVATOR CONTROLS JAMMED OR RESTRICTED

If jam was detected during cruise, and if aircraft control is adequate through use of the autopilot, consider continuing to normal descent point.

If controls remain jammed or restricted, and pitch is not controllable:

  • DISCONNECT Both the autopilot and autothrottles.

6. MAXIMUM AIRSPEED - 290 KIAS / .80 MACH

  • Monitor max airspeed ensuring no to pass 290 KIAS / .80 MACH.

Apply force as necessary to free jam.

NOTES

  • Autothrottles will be available.
  • Autopilot may be available.
  • Elevator authority may be reduced.

RUDDER JAMMED OR RESTRICTED

IF RUDDER IS NOT JAMMED OR RESTRICTED, SKIP TO END FLIGHT CONTROLS JAMMED OR RESTRICTED CHECLIST


Use rudder trim (if available) and ailerons for directional control.

If rudder input is not possible, use operative flight controls, trim, and thrust as required to maintain aircraft control.

NOTES

  • Select a runway with minimum crosswind.
  • The possibility of limited directional control with a wing engine inoperative should be considered prior to executing a missed approach.

7. AUTOBRAKE SELECTOR - OFF

  • Set the autobrake selector to the OFF position.

NOTES

  • Rudder pedal steering is inoperative.
  • If directional control is a concern, use differential braking at high speed.
  • Nose gear steering wheel may be used as speed decreases.

LSAS ALL FAIL

1. AUTOPILOT - DISCONNECT

  • DISCONNECT the autopilot.

2. LSAS SWITCHES - OFF

  • Move all LSAS switches to the OFF position.

3. ANY ONE LSAS SWITCH - ON

  • Move a singular LSAS switch to the ON position.

ASSOCIATED LSAS FAIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED

IF LSAS FAIL LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE, SKIP TO THE SECTION SAYING ATTEMPT TO RESTORE


4. ASSOCIATED LSAS SWITCH - OFF

  • Move the associated LSAS switch to the OFF position.

Attempt to restore remaining LSAS channels by pushing any one LSAS switch on and observe its FAIL light. Any LSAS switch that illuminates FAIL should be pushed to OFF prior to pushing next switch.

ANY LSAS CHANNEL OPERATIVE

IF ALL LSAS CHANNELS ARE INOPERATIVE, SKIP TO LSAS IS INOPERATIVE AUTOPILOT IS NOT AVAILABLE.


5. Attempt to reengage autopilot.

  • Attempt to reengage the autopilot.

NOTE

Autopilot requires an operative inboard LSAS channel.

LSAS is inoperative. Autopilot is not available.

NOTE

Pitch rate damper, pitch protection and positive nose lowering will not be available.

Pitch sensitivity increases with altitude, avoid overcontrolling.

  • After calculating estimated landing distance multiply it by 1.4.
  • Calculate VAPP using 28/RET VREF table unless flaps do not extend as desired. Tables for 15/RET and 25/RET are included for reference

LANDING ASPECTS

  • Do not use autothrottles below 50 feet RA.
  • Cross threshold at VAPP and reduce sink rate slightly.
  • Retard throttles to idle and raise nose of aircraft to at least a level attitude.
  • Do not hold aircraft off. Excessive flare will result in float and excessive use of runway.

CAUTION

Tail strike may occur at pitch attitudes greater than 10°.


ROLL-OUT ASPECTS

Autospoilers will not deploy until nose gear touchdown.


GO-AROUND ASPECTS

  • Rotate initially to 15°, then adjust pitch to maintain speed. Clean up procedure: Initially flaps 10. When passing VREF + 20, FLAP/SLAT Handle UP/RET.

Plan a 35 / EXT approach and landing.

Determine stabilizer inoperative speed additive from following table and add to VAPP, not to exceed VREF + 25.

LANDING ASPECTS

  • Do not use autothrottle below 50 feet RA.
  • Cross threshold at VAPP, reduce sink rate slightly.
  • Retard throttles to idle and raise nose to at least a level attitude.
  • Do not hold aircraft off. Excessive flare will result in float and excessive use of runway.

CAUTION

Tail strike may occur at pitch angles greater than 10º.


ROLL-OUT ASPECTS

  • Autospoilers will not deploy until nose gear touchdown.

GO-AROUND ASPECTS

  • Initial rotation to 15°, then adjust pitch to maintain speed.
  • Do not allow airspeed to go below adjusted VAPP.
  • Clean up procedure:
    • Initially Flaps 10.
    • When passing VMIN + 20, Flap/Slat Handle UP/RET.

YAW DAMP ALL FAIL

1. YAW DAMP SWITCHES - ALL OFF

  • Set all YAW DAMP switches to the OFF position.

2. ANY ONE YAW DAMP SWITCH - ON

  • Set a singular YAW DAMP switch to the ON position.

ASSOCIATED YAW DAMP FAIL LIGHT ILLUMINATE

IF ASSOCIATED YAW DAMP FAIL LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE, SKIP TO ATTEMPT TO RESTORE


3. ASSOCIATED YAW DAMP SWITCH - OFF

  • Set the associated YAW DAMP switch to the OFF position.

Attempt to restore remaining yaw damp channels by pushing any one YAW DAMP switch ON and observing its FAIL light. Any YAW DAMP switch that illuminates FAIL should be pushed to OFF prior to pushing next switch.

USE MAN SPOILERS

1. LANDING DISTANCE - MULTIPLY BY 1.1

  • Nultiply the calculated landing distance by a factor of 1.1.

2. AT NOSE GEAR TOUCHDOWN - DEPLOY SPOILERS

  • When the nose gear touches down deploy the spoilers.

NOTE

The pitch rate damper, pitch protection and positive nose lowering may not be available.

NO FLAP / SLAT EXTENDED LANDING

Reduce gross weight as desired.

1. GPWS SWITCH - FLAP OVRD

  • Move the GPWS switch to the FLAP OVRD position

2. AUTO BRAKE SELECTOR - OFF

  • Move the autobrake selector to the OFF position.

APPROACH ASPECTS

1. LANDING DISTANCE - MULTIPLY BY 1.2

  • Multiply aircraft landing distance by a factor of 1.2.
  • Plan a wide pattern for speed stabilization on final.
  • Pitch attitude in level flight approximately 10°.
